Poker Software Review

Poker Software, there are several dozens if not more different software programs mutually shared by over 600 poker rooms. They each have their own unique characteristics some of which are excellent, some of which shall we say leave a lot to be desired. Some are networked to share many poker rooms, some are proprietary to serve just one room. We will offer you a brief review of each of the top software and the highlights and weak points of each if there are any. Then recommend Poker Rooms that use that particular software.

Prima Network Software
Prima software was created by Microgaming Software Co. Prima is a shared network software meaning that all the Poker Rooms using Prima share in the huge database of players making them the third largest provider. They offer Texas Hold’em, Omaha, Omaha8, 7 Card Stud, 5 Card Stud in Limit, Pot-Limit, No-Limit, with many variations of each depending on the Poker Room. There have been numerous upgrades to the software in the past three years which has improved the usability and speed. Improved table design and layout controls plus, a game history for each player and an optional chat feature. All in all a very good software.

They offer an extensive list of tournaments to include Sit & Go’s, Multi-Table Sit & Go’s, $1,000 daily free rolls and a $100,000 Sunday tournament, and daily buy-in tournaments of $25,000, $22,000, $7,500, $6,500, $6,000, $5,500, $4,500, $4,000, $3,500, and $1,200. They also have what they call Rounders tournaments to buy in for 5/.50 where you can advance through five rounds of Sit & Go’s to hit the top prize. Any of the Prima Poker Rooms would be an excellent choice for beginners.

Absolute Poker Software
Absolute Poker's proprietary software is one of the fastest growing on the Internet. With an endorsement from 2 timeWSOP bracelet winner Mark Seif it has to be good. Overall, the software is good but I didn’t like the somewhat annoying sound effects. It is fast and smooth with well designed graphics and functionality. They do offer one great feature a “private table” option where you and a bunch of friends can play privately in your own tournament. Round the clock tournaments with up to 1800 players online in peak hours, in a wide range of buy-ins. Daily, 20 Free Rolls are available and on Thursdays a $10,000 guaranteed multi-table tournament, and the WSOP main event tournament. Absolute was awarded the Gambling Magazine 2004 Top Poker Site and Editor’s Pick

Ultimate Bet Software
Ultimate Bet software developed and launched online the Excapa Network in 2001. Since that time has grown at a tremendous rate. 2,600-3,200 ring game players and 3000-4000 tournament players during peak hours (Aug.’05). Their very attractive, smooth running , fast and reliable software is part of the reason they have such a loyal following. A really cool feature is the multi-table Mini-View feature where you can switch back and forth. Notes on the individual players is supported. You can choose from 8 different background environments, something we really liked. They offer a “buddy program” where you can tournament against your friends or co-workers or favorite players. We could find no negatives at all. Overall, one of the top 2 online! Highly recommended.

Poker Stars Software
Poker Stars Very simply put, in my humble opinion, the absolute best there is. Coming online in 2000 they have attained the #2 position in quantity of players online Aug. ’05 numbers: are you ready for this…4500-5500 ring games and 20,000 – 23,000 tournament players at peak hours! The best part is their software operates with no platform problems with this kind of traffic. Why is it soooo popular? Well, fast and reliable (no slowdowns) during peak hours. As you know there are time limits on players that this could have an impact on with 20,000+ players in tournaments at the same time. Not a problem. They were the innovators to “player notes” in the industry and lots of statistics available, like flop percentages, etc. One real neat feature we liked is the ability to upload personal images of players making for a good laugh at the tables! Virtual PC is available to MAC users. All the games you could want with all the bet limits or no-limits, which attracts a lot of High No-Limit players. So, the only downside is that competition is tough. This is the regular home of World Poker Tour Champions Chris Moneymaker (2003) and Greg Raymer (2004).
